Sundari was a big red, white and blue kite. When Bobby made her, she smiled at him.
“You are beautiful and I will call you Sundari,” he said.
One day, Bobby took Sundari to the fair. The band was playing and everyone was smiling A merry-go-round was playing a happy little tune. It was carrying lots of boys and girls round and round on its wooden animals.

सुंदरी एक बड़ी लाल, सफ़ेद और नीले रंग की पतंग थी। जब बॉबी ने उसे बनाया, तो वह मुस्कराने लगी। तुम सुंदर हो और इसलिए मैं तुम्हें ‘सुंदरी’ कहकर बुलाऊँगा।” उसने कहा। एक दिन वॉबी सुंदरी को मेले में ले गया। गाना-बजाना चल रहा था तथा हर कोई मुस्कुरा रहा था। एक आनंददायक हल्की धुन के साथ चक्करदार झूला चल रहा था। वह लकड़ी के बने जानवरों के ऊपर बहुत सारे लड़के तथा लड़कियों को गोल चक्कर के रूप में घुमा रहा था।

Bobby looked for an open space where he could run and fly his kite. Sundari looked, too. Out in the grass ran Bobby, holding up his kite as high as he could. Puff! The wind came along. Sundari started to fly up! But she could not go  very high. A little dog was holding on to her long tail. It was in his mouth.

बॉबी किसी खाली स्थान को ढूंढने लगा, जहाँ वह अपनी पतंग को उड़ाते हुए दौड़ सके। सुंदरी भी ऐसी ही जगह खोज रही थी। बॉबी अपनी पतंग को जितना ऊँचा ले जा सकता था, उड़ाता हुआ घास की तरफ भागा। हवा की फैंक! इस आवाज़ के साथ हवा का एक झोंका आया। सुंदरी ऊपर की तरफ़ उड़ने लगी। किंतु वह ज्यादा ऊपर नहीं उड़ पाई। एक छोटे कुत्ते ने उसकी  लंबी पूँछ को अपने मुँह में दबा लिया।

Bobby shooed the dog away. “We’ll try again,” Bobby said. This time Sundari leaped up in the air. She tugged hard. Oh, how she wanted Bobby to let go of her string! She gave a big tug. Bobby had to let her go. “Wheee!” cried Sundari. “Now I can fly as high as I please!”

बॉबी ने कुत्ते को भगा दिया। “हम दुबारा कोशिश करेंगे।” बॉबी ने कहा। इस बार सुंदरी हवा में ऊपर उड़ गई। उसने तेज़ झटका दिया। ओह! वह चाहती थी कि बॉबी उसकी डोर को छोड़ दे। उसने एक बड़ा झटका दिया। बॉबी को उसकी डोर को छोड़ना पड़ा। व्ही!” सुंदरी चिल्लाई। अब में अपनी इच्छा के अनुसार जितना ऊँचा उड़ना चाहती हूँ. उड़ सकती हैं। और वह हवा में ऊपर और ऊपर उड़ती चली गई।
